      If you are having a serious problem sleeping because your partner is making a loud noise, it is snoring. The loud noise comes from the vibration inside the throat when you breathe. Hence, almost all people may snore now and then, but it is a serious health problem for some. There are different causes of snoring that you should know.

      The following are common causes of snoring.

      1. Pregnancy, Obesity, and History

      People with extra tissue in the throat will be likely to experience snoring. However, being overweight or obese can start this problem. Likewise, pregnant women and people with a family history of snoring can also experience the same issue. 

      2. Illness

      Anything that may stop you from breathing can become one of the causes of snoring. If you experience difficulty breathing because of a cold or flu, you will surely snore while sleeping. 

      3. Bad Habits

      Moreover, snoring can happen when the muscles inside the tongue are relaxed. Hence, some substances can make it relax. Some of these bad habits with harmful chemicals are alcohol, cigarette, drugs, and some medicines. Also, other factors like age and long term smoking and alcohol drinking can have bad side effects.

      4. Blocked Airways

      People with allergies may suffer from blocked airways. It can happen during winter or fall season when allergy usually strikes. Hence, another reason for snoring is a polyp that can get into the way of the air passage. 

      5. Large Throat Tissues

      Some people are born with large tonsils. Therefore it can cause them to snore. 

      6. Long Soft Palate

      There is a dangling tissue that is located at the back of the mouth. It can narrow the opening of the nose going to the throat. Therefore, when you breathe, it will vibrate. Likewise, it will cause a loud, disturbing noise. 

      7. Sleep Position

      People who like to sleep on their back is another reason for snoring. 

      8. Lack of Sleep

      What causes snoring in females? It is maybe because of lack of sleep. Therefore, it is not only males who snore, but women as well. Hence, not getting enough sleep can also cause the muscle inside the throat to relax.

      9. Health Condition

      The health-illness called sleep apnea is also what causes snoring in females and males. This health problem will cause a person to stop breathing for a few seconds. As a result, they will gasp for breath or make a choking sound. Actually, there are two types of this condition. 

      • Obstructive: It is the type with direct relation to snoring. 
      • Central sleep: Moreover, it is a health issue of the nervous system that can affect breathing. However, it is not linked to snoring.

      Furthermore, aside from making a loud noise while sleeping, a person with this health condition will also experience the following:

      • Feeling sleepy during the day
      • Unable to sleep at night
      • Headache
      • Unable to concentrate on things
      • Irritability
      • Low sex drive

      This problem may link to other health problems like heart issues, hypertension, and others. That is why it is important to talk to your doctor right away from the correct diagnosis.

      Signs 

      The following are common signs that one can feel aside from loud noise while sleeping. 

      • Waking up with a dry mouth
      • Having sore throat
      • Sleepiness during the day
      • Pause breathing
      • Heavy urinating at night
      • Serious headache
      • Chest pain
      • High blood pressure

      Signs of snoring should be taken for granted as it could be a warning sign for serious health issues. Also, aside from a health problem, it can start a serious couple of issues. If it is already disturbing your partner’s sleep, then it is time to take immediate action. Hence, poor sleep is not good for you and your partner. 

      Signs When to Visit a Doctor

      Moreover, if you are experiencing the above symptoms, it is good to visit a doctor immediately. It is to prevent it from becoming a serious health problem. Also, children who snore need quick attention from parents. A child may develop sleep apnea if not given proper treatment. 

      Snoring should not affect the quality of your life. There are several ways to solve it using the proper treatment.
