      Fire is useful to people. It is easier to do many things with its help. One can easily cook foods and get heat during cold weather. However, some people develop a fear of fire because they think of it as a danger. It is normal for people to feel scared when they hear the fire. It is because it can destroy things. Hence, they have a hard time controlling emotions once they think or see even a small fire.

      1. History of Fire

      During old times, fire is one of the reasons why people live in comfort. However, during that time, there are more chances of getting harm because of fire. It is because they do not know how to control it. Even before today, a house fire is a threat to people’s lives. Now, modern buildings and houses are following safety steps to prevent a fire from happening. 

      2. Effect of this Fear on People

      Fear of fire may have a huge effect on a person’s day to day life. Hence, smelling smoke can start an attack and other severe signs. Also, a person with this condition always worries. Therefore, they need to regularly check the gas stove, fireplace, boiler, and other heating appliances inside their house. 

      Moreover, one cannot stand seeing and thinking about it. Aside from that, that cannot be close to candles and other things that can start a fire. Once the attack happens, the body will quickly experience mild to severe signs. Therefore, it is good to ask for help from doctors if the fear affects your normal activities. 

      3. Possible Signs

      Signs that a person can feel are either physical or emotional. However, it is possible to experience both symptoms at the same time. If this happens, it means that your case is serious and needs medical help.

      In case a person sees or think of fire, then they may experience the following emotional signs including:

      • Hearing stories about fire makes a person very nervous. 
      • Unable to control feelings even if there is no actual danger.
      • Avoid situations and events with fire.
      • Having a hard time doing everyday activities because of a phobia of fire.  

      Physical Signs

      People with this fear will surely experience physical symptoms such as:

      • Faster heartbeat
      • Heaving sweating
      • Trouble breathing
      • Shaking
      • Drying of the mouth
      • Nausea
      • Dizziness
      • Passing out

      4. Sign in Children

      Furthermore, developing fear is very common in children, but it can be serious if not given attention immediately. The most common signs in children are:

      • Constant crying
      • They do not want to be far away from their parents.
      • Unable to move
      • Being very silent

      5. Possible Causes

      There are different types of fears that people experience, but the main reason is not yet known. However, the following are possible causes of phobia of fire. 

      6. Bad Experiences in the Past

      A person with a bad experience with fire during childhood may develop this fear. For instance, a burn or being trapped inside a house in a fire, or losing a relative with fire are bad experiences.

      7. Family Background

      According to some studies, children with phobia most of the time got it from their parents. It is because of hearing scary stories from their parents and other members of the family. Therefore, experts believe that fear is something that one can learn. Therefore, it is also possible to ignore it.

      8. Brain Activity

      Moreover, each person has a different way of facing fear inside their mind. Therefore, some are more nervous and fearful than others. If you are a type of person who easily get nervous, you may do activities that can help you relax.

      9. Proper Diagnosis

      Having a phobia is not a joke. It can stop you from living a normal life. Likewise, a person who has it may stop going to work, school, and attending social gatherings. It is better to talk to your doctor about it. You may ask for an effective way to get rid of your fear. The doctor will work with you to find out the real cause of it. Also, to know how you can get over it.

      The first step to know your true condition is by asking some questions about your signs. They will also try to know more about your health condition, especially if you have a mental illness before. Hence, it is important, to be honest with your answers.
