Although it is sad to find out the truth, hypoallergenic dogs are just a myth. However, you can indeed find some dogs that can cause a less allergic reaction. Also, it is not the hair of the dog that can cause this bad reaction. It is the dander with protein that comes from the saliva and the urine of dogs. Some dogs are known as hypoallergenic dogs because they do not shed a lot of furs. Dogs with little to no shedding are ideal for people with this kind of health condition. If you own a dog that sheds fur a lot, you do not have to worry at all.

      The Real Facts

      1. You can still own a fluffy dog

Some people think that in avoiding bad reaction, it is better not to get a furry dog. However, furry dogs are very safe for people with allergies. Search for a list of dogs that you can bring at home. Surprisingly, most dog breeds have fluffy hair. Hence, according to AKC, it includes Maltese, Bichon Frise, and the Portuguese water dog, all fluffy.

Moreover, having an allergy must not stop you from caring for a furry dog. You can still play with your dog. However, be very careful about the dog dander.

      2. They are not a new breed of dogs

Hypoallergenic breeds are not new. They are labeled with such names because many people notice that these breeds cause little to no bad reaction to people with allergies. These breeds have been around for centuries, such as Poodle, Schnauzer, and many more.

      3. It can Fool You

Dog have different shedding ability even with the so-called hypoallergenic dogs. An expert with allergies, Dr. Clifford Bassett, clear that dogs like humans may have different characteristics. Therefore, one can still experience dog allergies even around these dogs.

      4. You do not have to buy a dog

To become allergic free, you do not have to buy an expensive breed of dog. Hence, you can find them inside dog shelters. If you love taking good care of dogs, it is good to adopt homeless ones. These breeds are just waiting for a new family to care for them. Any breed can have the ability to cure an illness because of the joy that they can give.

      5. You can make any dog a hypoallergenic

Furthermore, no breed is 100% free from an allergen, but you can make them safe for you.

      • Bathing your dog every week can reduce dog dander.
      • It is better not to allow dogs to climb on the bed or sofa.
      • Also, you can limit them from entering other rooms where you mostly spend your time.
      • It is good not to use carpet inside the house.
      • Above all, you may use an air filter to avoid flowing dander.

Another useful thing to do is to vacuum the entire place regularly. Hence, it can help lessen the dander all over the house.

      6. Dog Allergens

The allergen that can cause a bad reaction to people is the Canis familiaris 1. Likewise, it is present to all dogs no matter what breed. Therefore, expect to have it inside your home even if you own a hypoallergenic one.

      7. Dogs with Lesser Allergens

American Kennel Club stated that some dog breeds have lesser bad effects on people with dog allergies.

      • Maltese
      • Wheaten Terrier
      • Bichon Frise
      • Kerry Blue Terrier
      • Chinese Crested
      • Bedlington Terrier
      • Schnauzer
      • Poodle
      • Portuguese Water Dog
      • Irish Water Spaniel

      8. Dog with Short Hair

Unlike a long-haired dog, breeds with short hair are less likely to groom. Therefore, they have less saliva and dander that can cause a bad reaction. As a result, owners of short hair dogs have fewer problems.

      9. Other Effective Ways

It is good to work with your pet’s veterinarian. Hence, they will give you useful tips on how to reduce allergens from pets. Also, talk to your doctor to give you the right medications for your allergies. Here are additional tips:
