5 Interesting Facts About Air and Sea Sickness

      1. Common

It is one of the common food allergies among kids. Therefore, it is common among children under five years old and shows during childhood. However, it can occur to infants as well. Also, about 2% of children are allergic to eggs.

      2. Protein Sensitivity

Egg sensitivity happens due to the protein found in eggs. Also, the body sees the protein as something that brings harm. So, the body sends chemicals to fight it off.

      3. It can be outgrown

About 70% of children outgrow this allergy at age 16. However, studies show that they outgrow the symptoms upon reaching three years old. But not all can outgrow this condition. For others, this condition can still last for life.

      4. Signs

After eating eggs, symptoms occur within a few minutes to 72 hours. Signs and symptoms can range from mild to severe, which includes:

      • Skin rashes
      • Hives
      • Runny nose
      • Stuffy nose
      • Vomiting
      • Cramps
      • Diarrhea
      • Trouble breathing
      • Coughing
      • Tight throat
      • Bluish skin
      • Swollen tongue or lips

Such symptoms are like other allergies’ symptoms. Therefore, one must undergo tests or action plan to know what food they must avoid.

      5. Other Serious Signs

The reaction of the human body differs from one person to another. Also, in rare cases, egg allergy can cause a severe reaction.

Signs of a severe condition are:

      • Swollen or lump in the throat
      • Trouble breathing
      • Rapid heartbeat
      • Sense of fear

      6. Intolerance vs Allergy

Egg intolerance and egg allergy are different from each other. Intolerance shows when the body reacts to eggs. Allergy from eggs is when the body reacts by attacking the proteins found in the egg. However, egg intolerance doesn’t show severe symptoms. Symptoms include:

      • Cramps
      • Diarrhea
      • Nausea
      • Vomiting

      7. Tests

There are tests to know if one has an egg allergy. Hence, doctors can do skin tests and blood tests. In a skin test or scratch test, they will put an egg on the skin. Afterward, they will prick or make a small scratch on the skin. Additionally, one is sensitive to eggs if the skin will swell up and turn red.

      8. Prevention

The best way to avoid reactions is not to eat eggs or anything that has it. This fact is due to the reason that not everyone can outgrow it. Therefore, those who have reactions to eggs must avoid any food that has it.

Foods that might contain eggs are:

      • Baked goods like cakes and bread
      • Ice cream and other desserts
      • Candies and chocolates
      • Marshmallows
      • Batter-fried foods
      • Sauces
      • Soups and broths
      • Baby food

Moreover, it is imperative to understand food labels when shopping. Though the food doesn’t look that it has eggs, check for the phrase “may contain eggs.” Some process other goods where eggs are also produced.

Adults and kids who have egg sensitivity must have a plan in case they ate eggs. Therefore, it is good to know the drugs that can ease reactions like antihistamine or auto-injector. Also, it is important to inform people around you that you have such a condition. Kids can wear a medical alert bracelet. This wear will provide info to people who will treat the reactions.

      9. Breastfeeding

Mothers who breastfeed must avoid eating eggs if their babies have an egg allergy. If the baby has such a condition, the mother must take away eggs from her diet. Hence, this fact is due to egg proteins going with breast milk. As the baby drinks it, he or she might show symptoms.

If you do not want your body to react to eggs, do not eat them. Therefore, it is good to search for recipes that are egg-free but are still yummy and healthy. Some foods contain more protein, like tofu, cheese, almonds, and beans. Peanut butter is also a favorite and will give you a protein boost.

If you are not sure if your body can’t process eggs well, talk to a doctor. It is better to ensure the specific food that causes allergy to you.
