Causes
1. Fatigue
You are busy with work, school works, or other commitments. Hence, you find yourself stressed and getting less sleep. Therefore, you may think that sacrificing your sleep for something may do nothing to you. Sad to say, doing it will give you that panda look. Also, fatigue is a famous dark circle’s cause. However, most think that people with dark circles around the eye are too tired. Well, lack of sleep may cause fluid buildup under the eyes, making them puffy. Additionally, it makes the skin to become dull and pale. As a result, dark tissues and blood vessels appear. Also, people who sleep too much can have it.
2. Age
As people age, the skin becomes thinner. Hence, the skin loses fat and collagen. These two are important in keeping the skin elastic. As a result, the blood vessels under the skin show up. It makes your eye circles appear darker.
3. Eye Strain
Staring too much at your phone or computer may strain your eyes. As a result, the blood vessels around the eyes enlarge. Notice how long you spend your time on your gadgets. Give your eyes a break.
4. Allergies
Another dark circle cause may be due to allergic reactions. Therefore, if you have an allergy, you are likely to have itchy, red, and puffy eyes. Also, your blood vessels dilate and become more visible under the skin.
Moreover, if your eyes get itchy, do not scratch them. Doing so may worsen the case and make the shadows under your eyes darker. If your skin reacts to some eye makeup, avoid using it again.
5. Lack of Water in the Body
People who do not have a proper amount of water in the body are also at risk. Likewise, this dark circle reason makes the eye dull and looking sunken. It is because it makes it closer to the bone underneath. Drink lots of water to combat this cause.
6. Overexposure to the Sun
If exposure to the sun can darken your body, it can also darken your eye circle. Also, too much sunlight can darken the skin around your eyes. The exposure pushes your body to give off melanin. This pigment handles the darkening of your hair, skin, and eyes.
7. Genetics
See if you are not the only one in the family who has dark circles under the eyes. If someone in your family has this case, then you are likely to have it too. It may be visible in childhood. And it may darken or lighten as you age.
Furthermore, facial bone structure passed through genes can be a dark circle reason. It makes eye bags more noticeable. If you have a deep tear trough under your eyes, it will cast a shadow under it.
8. Sleeping Position
Sleeping on your front or side is one of the reasons for dark circles under your eyes. While it may not make sense to you, it affects eye health for a reason. When we lay on our front or side, our faces fold into the pillow. So, it puts pressure on the eyes. This reason makes it easier for your face or eye shadow to from wrinkles. It does not only add to dark circles but can worsen your eye bags.

- People from non-white ethnic groups and with darker skin tones are more prone to this state.
