      Heartburn is a condition by which the element in the stomach moves upward going to the food pipe and it is also called gastrointestinal reflux. It is the diaphragm as well as the lower esophageal sphincter responsible for preventing heartburn however, there are instances when the muscle relaxes and leaves the food pipe open for stomach acid to pass through. This is the reason why it is imperative to look for effective heartburn relief.

      One can experience heartburn once acid from the stomach reaches the food pipe and causes a burning sensation at the beck, throat, and behind your breastbone. It can also lead to coughing, hoarseness of the voice, and taste changes. 

      In case the condition worsens then it may develop into a condition called GERD or gastroesophageal reflux that can give you frequent acid problems. 

      It is good to know that there are quick home remedies for heartburn that you can do to find relief, but remember to always consult your doctor to know the best treatment.

      1. Change Bad Habit

      People are accustomed to doing a lot of activities that increase the chances of getting heartburn like smoking. Consider smoking cessation as a relief to this condition because cigarettes can irritate the muscles of the sphincter. Also, some people tend to wear tight clothes that give a lot of pressure to the stomach for acid to move backward going to the food pipe. Consider wearing loose-fitting jeans to allow your stomach to relax. Changing these bad habits is a good acid reflux remedy. 

      2. Look for Effective Medications

      People experiencing frequent heartburn should seek a doctor’s advice for the best medication. There are lots of prescription drugs that can provide relief to heartburn to avoid the risk of getting GERD. Diet modifications are also one way to help you stay away from its symptoms. 

      3. Weight Management

      The best heartburn relief is to modify the diet and try to lose weight. Overweight and obese individuals are more prone to developing heartburn so medical professionals encourage them to opt for a weight loss program to cure acid reflux.  

      4. Elevate your Head and Upper Body

      People with acid reflux problems are experiencing dilemmas especially at night as lying down can make the symptoms worse. Before going to bed, you can do home remedies for heartburn by lifting your head until your waist. In case you have an adjustable bed, then you need to lift it in an angle that can offer some relief to you. If you are not using an adjustable bed, then you need a wedge pillow and place it under your waistline going to the head for an inclined position. 

      5. Good Posture

      Posture is a contributory factor in worsening the case of acid reflux. While you are sitting, lying down, or standing up, it is important to always observe good posture for acid reflux remedy. This is to avoid giving pressure to the lower esophageal sphincter or the LES. The LES is a muscle that is responsible for keeping acid from moving upwards to the esophagus.

      6. Try Baking Soda and water

      You might not be aware but baking soda and clean water can offer heartburn relief by providing a neutralizing effect in the stomach acid. You need one teaspoon of baking soda and dissolve in a glass of clean water, then drink slowly. It is important to always drink slowly if you have this condition.

      7. Try Some Ginger Tea

      Ginger is an ancient traditional acid reflux remedy. You can try to include slices of ginger in your soup, drinks, and other food recipes. You can also prepare ginger tea by boiling it and drink it with honey. However, do not consider taking ginger ale as it is made with artificial flavoring that can trigger the condition. 

      8. Stay away from triggers

      Treatment for heartburn requires total lifestyle changes to prevent it from happening again and again. Some foods and habits can trigger their symptoms like eating fatty and spicy foods. Also, you should not eat two hours before going to bed and do not lie down right after eating. In case, you are experiencing symptoms at least three times a week, then it is imperative to consult a physician for proper medications and treatments.
