8 Common Signs and Causes of Miscarriage

Pregnancy may bring joy, stress, or both. Hence, couples that are expecting their first child may experience worry. For moms, carrying a baby is hard. Also, it entails possible harm to the mother and child. Miscarriage meaning refers to the loss of a fetus within 20 weeks of pregnancy. For the first three months, it is common. However, it may happen due to factors inside and out. About 10% have had this loss in known pregnancies.

The signs and symptoms for a miscarriage are:

      1. Heavy Spotting

Spotting or light bleeding is common in early pregnancy. But if you experience it in the 2nd or 3rd trimester, seek immediate medical help.

      2. Abnormal Vaginal Bleeding

Problems in the pregnancy may result in vaginal bleeding.

      3. Tissue or Fluid in the Vaginal Discharge

A discharge keeps the lady’s part clean. But a discharge with a tissue- or dead skin-like may be problematic. The tissue may appear light pink. Therefore, call or go to a doctor if it happens.

If you had a fetal tissue that passed from your vagina, put it in a container. Also, please bring it to a health care expert or hospital for study.

      4. Severe Abdominal Pain

If a woman had a pregnancy loss, she might feel extreme pain with heavy bleeding. The cramps may occur for a few hours.

      5. Mild to Severe Back Pain

Back pain happens in late and early miscarriage. Hence, this sign goes with the symptoms above.

For instance, fever, chills, lower abdominal sore, and foul-smelling vaginal discharge are some.

Do not waver to call or go to a doctor if you have these signs. Also, you may still have some of the symptoms above without having a miscarriage.

      Causes of Miscarriage

      6. An Issue in the Genes

      Examples of odd chromosomes include:

      • Intrauterine fetal demise (IUFD).

Furthermore, this term refers to pregnancy loss due to the embryo that stopped growing.

      • A blighted ovum or anembryonic pregnancy

The sac and the placenta grew, but the baby did not.

      • Molar pregnancy

Above all, if both chromosomes came from the father, fetal growth would not happen.

      • Partial molar pregnancy

In this case, the mother’s chromosome stays, but there are still two from the father.

      • Damaged egg or sperm cell

Moreover, if there is damage in either of the cells, there may be an error when the embryo’s cell divides.

      • Problems with the placenta

      7. Poor Health Conditions can Cause Miscarriage

      • Poor nutrition
      • Obesity
      • Age of 35 years old and above
      • Hormone issues
      • Infections
      • Thyroid disease
      • Cervix problems
      • Odd-shaped uterus
      • High blood pressure
      • Food poisoning
      • Trauma
      • Diabetes

      8. Lifestyle Routine

A poor diet may lead to early miscarriage. Hence, avoid smoking, drinking alcohol, and using illegal drugs. Too much caffeine may also lead to miscarriage. Meaning to say, do not drink too much coffee, tea, soft drinks, or energy drinks. However, if you are taking certain drugs for other health concerns, talk about it with your doctor.

Furthermore, there are reports where men’s smoking increases the risk of pregnancy loss. However, exercise and having sex does not cause pregnancy loss. But exposure to harmful substances and radiation may affect the baby. Therefore, lessen going or working in a place with harmful substance or radiation.

      Myths

There are other myths on the cause of pregnancy loss. Risks not related to it are:

      • Stress
      • Working
      • Flying or traveling in an airplane
      • Exercise
      • Shock

      Other Factors

Some factors increase the chance of miscarriage. These are:

      • Age. Age affects the ability to carry a child. The ideal age for getting pregnant is between the late 20s and the early 30s. Hene, older women with the age of 35 have a 40% chance of miscarriage. While for a 45-year old, the risk goes up to 80%.
      • Past pregnancy losses. Also, women who had two or more pregnancy loss have a high chance of facing it again.
      • Uterine or cervical problems.
      • Smoking poses a higher risk of early miscarriage than those who do not.
      • Alcohol and illegal drugs
      • Weight. Therefore, studies links being underweight or overweight to miscarriage.
      • Invasive prenatal tests. Also, this practice involves needles going into the uterus. This method may increase the risk.

Going through this loss is not easy. Hence, women who experienced it need emotional support and treatment. Therefore, knowing the signs and symptoms may decrease the risk of it occurring again.

Moreover, there is no guarantee of a safe pregnancy. There are lots of factors that affect it. Still, we can lessen the risk by staying healthy. Have your partner with you if you are to go out. Additionally, having a buddy will help you in times of need. Therefore, stay away from things or events that may harm the baby. Above all, if you have a constant miscarriage, you may undergo tests to know possible causes.
