However, 2010 studies found out that the shit does not have to do with these illnesses. Keep discovering more about MMR shot by reading this article.

      1. The Importance of MMR Shot

This shot is to protect children from severe signs of measles, mumps, and rubella. Likewise, these illnesses can cause severe MMR vaccine side effects, especially in children. Although uncommon, it may cause death. In the past, it is a common illness in the United States. However, after the release of the shot, cases decrease over the years.

      2. Who should get the vaccine?

Information from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, everyone should get the shot, especially ages:

      • 12 to 15 months old (first shot)
      • 4 to 6 years old (second shot)
      • 18 years old born before the release of the shot

Moreover, it is recommended for people who will travel to a place with a high number of MMR. Children who will travel to these places must get the first dose even before 12 months old. However, the second shot is significant to increase the effectiveness of the vaccine. Also, 12 months old should get two shots before traveling.

Furthermore, those who received the first shot are at risk of having mumps if there is an increasing case in an area.

      3. Who should not get the shot?

MMR side effects can happen to some people, so some should not get the shot.

      • History of a severe reaction to ingredients used
      • Experienced serious bad reaction to the first shot
      • Having cancer treatment
      • Taking treatment for HIV/AIDS
      • Tuberculosis

Also, it is possible to delay the shot if you are:

      • Pregnant
      • Seriously ill
      • Undergo blood transfusion
      • Bruising and bleeding issues
      • received a shot for other illness in the last four weeks

Therefore, always consult your doctor about possible MMR side effects and your baby’s health condition.

      4. Common Shot Side Effects

Any treatment indeed has its side effects. Therefore, it is common to experience an MMR vaccine reaction after it. It is good to know that most people who have it do not have any serious effect. Additionally, getting the shot is safer than going through these three illnesses. The following are normal signs after the shot.

      • Minor: rashes and mild fever
      • Moderate: mild muscle and joint pain and low platelets
      • Severe: swelling, hives, and trouble breathing

In case your child experiences moderate to severe MMR vaccine reaction, then quickly contact their doctor.

      5. MMR for Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Mother

Pregnant and lactating mothers should not take the shot. Also, after getting the shot, women must avoid getting pregnant for three months. If it happens, you should contact your doctor right away. The rubella virus can go straight to the breast milk from the mother. However, it is not clear when it comes to mumps and measles if it can pass through breast milk.

      6. Exemption from the Shot

Some do not need it, especially adults who have:

      • Proof of vaccination
      • Proof that you already have measles, mumps, and rubella

      7. Other Important Information

Mothers need to know the signs of these three illnesses.

      Measles signs are:

      • Cough
      • Rashes
      • Runny nose
      • Fever
      • White spots around the mouth

This illness can cause other problems in-ear and brain. Also, it can lead to pneumonia if not treated.

      Mumps signs are:

      • Headache
      • Fever
      • Muscle pain
      • Pain in swallowing and chewing

Severe cases can affect the ear and lead to other health complications.

      Rubella signs are:

      • Rashes
      • Fever
      • Red eyes
      • Swollen neck
      • Joint pain

Having it during pregnancy is very dangerous to the baby. Hence, it may cause birth problems and miscarriage.

Vaccines are generally safe as they undergo a long process of research and development. Also, shots are manufactured by leading pharmaceutical companies around the world.
