      Research on Essential Oils and Sleep

A study in 2005 shows that lavender oil provides a goodnight’s sleep to 31 young participants. As a result, they have deep and longer sleep and feel good the next morning. Here are some of the essential oils to help sleep problems go away fast.

      1. Lavender Oil

      First-timers will love the lavender scent while sleeping. Therefore, it is a useful oil that can make you fall asleep quickly. Its smell can offer relaxation and deeper sleep. Also, it is famous for people who are having mood swings. It is because of its calming effect that you can quickly feel after smelling its scent. 

      Moreover, several studies show its effectiveness in treating pain. A very recent study using lavender oil found out that it can reduce the need to take pain killers. The study is done on children ages 6 to 12 years old. Also, its effect is similar to sleeping pills, which is why it makes you fall asleep. 

      2. Vanilla Oil

      It has the sweetest scent among other essential oils. Hence, it has a long history when it comes to treating various illnesses. Likewise, vanilla has a similar effect to taking sleeping pills. As a result, the body will experience low blood pressure and a very calm nervous system. If you are feeling down, the smell of vanilla can give you a mood boost. 

      3. Rose Oil

      Its floral scent can provide essential oils to help sleep problems. Hence, it is effective alone or together with other oils. Experts recommend a combination of these flowery scents is the best aromatherapy to treat sleep problems.

      4. Jasmine Oil

      It is another sweet floral scent that can help you sleep well at night. Therefore, some studies show that it is good for treating restless sleeping. Also, aside from goodnight’s sleep, it can make you become more alert during the daytime.

      5. Sandalwood

      Moreover, this aromatherapy for sleep can offer the different scent of woody and earth feel. Hence, it is very useful if you want to solve signs of anxiety. Likewise, it has a similar effect to taking sleeping pills. However, it may offer a different effect to some, like being more alert. Therefore, it is better to use its scent during the daytime. 

      6. Citrus Oil

      Furthermore, this scent has a similar effect to the sandalwood scent. Hence, each person may have a different experience after using it. If you want citrus for sleeping, then you can go for Bergamot oil. Also, lemon oil can make more people fall asleep immediately. In case citrus makes you stay awake, then not use it before bedtime. 

      How Essential Oil is used for Sleeping

      The good thing about aromatherapy for sleep is that it can be used in different ways. One way is to apply it to your skin before sleeping. For instance, you can apply it on your wrist, feet, plans, back, and chest. However, it is essential to use carrier oil as some essential oils may cause skin burn. Also, applying without using other oils can give you skin irritation. Therefore, you can choose from different carrier oils, such as jojoba, coconut, and olive oil. One can use one teaspoon of the carrier oil and one drop of the essential oil that you want.
