Migraine is a neurological condition that causes strong headaches, nausea, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound. It is usually a hereditary disease that affects all ages. Migraine can attack any time and it can last for hours to days. Once migraine attacks it can be painful that can affect your daily activities. Migraine is categorized as without aura or commonly known as common migraines and with aura or commonly known as classic migraines. Chronic migraines are painful and can last for a month up to 3 months depending on the severity and its causes.
Approximately 3 to 5 percent of people in the United States are experiencing chronic migraines. It can be caused by a mood disorder such as anxiety and depression, ongoing disrupted sleep patterns, excessive caffeine intake, obesity, snoring, and a history of severe emotional or physical trauma.
Common symptoms are pain on one or both sides of the head. Patients may also feel moderate to severe in dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and some may even experience sensitivity to laud sounds and bright light. This condition often attacks in women compared to men. It can begin during childhood and can last up to old age. Stress migraine has many symptoms like dullness, head pain, the sensation of tightness or pressure across your forehead or on the sides and back of your head, and tenderness on scalp neck, and shoulder muscle.
1. Migraine Symptoms
This health condition has several stages. First is the prodrome stage. Symptoms from this stage are usually food cravings, depression, low energy, hyperactivity, frequent yawning, irritability, and neck stiffness. As you can see all of these are behavioral changes. The next stage is the migraine with aura. In migraine with aura stage, you may have encounter problems with your vision, sensation, movement, and speech.
Migraine symptoms from this stage are difficulty in speaking, seeing shapes, light flashes, or bright spots, feeling a prickling or tingling in the face, arms, or legs and temporary loss of vision. The last stage is the attack phase. The last stage is the most severe when the actual migraine pain occurs. Some symptoms are pain on one side of your head, either on the left side, right side, front, or back, or in your temples, dizziness or feeling faint, nausea, and vomiting.

One of the symptoms of migraine is nausea and more than half of the people with can experience it. It can happen at the same time with a headache. Nausea with vomiting requires immediate attention as it can lead to dehydration. If you are experiencing nausea, you can take usual migraine medications. However, if you’re experiencing nausea with vomiting it is not advisable to take drugs. Nausea without vomiting can be treated by a medication called anti-nausea or antiemetic drugs. The doctor will suggest this medication to ease this symptom.
3. Migraine Test
The first thing that the doctor will do is to ask for possible symptoms of migraines that you are experiencing. Next is the review of your medical and family history. After the interview session, the doctor will do some physical exams to know other potential causes, and imaging scans such as CT scans, and MRI. CT scan and MRI can detect causes including tumors, abnormal brain fractures, and stroke.
4. Migraine Treatment
Migraines are incurable, however, there are interventions to manage it and treat symptoms once they occur. Treatments will help to ease the pain of a severe headache. Treatment is depending on age, how often you experience migraines, type of migraine, how severe it is, and if it includes nausea and vomiting. An important consideration is the current health condition of the patients and other underlying diseases.
Some of the possible treatments for chronic migraines include self-care migraine remedies, lifestyle adjustments, and stress management. There are OTC pain or migraine medications like NSAIDs or acetaminophen (Tylenol), medications to lessen headaches, nausea, and vomiting. Patients can also go through a hormone therapy if migraines occur during menstruation cycle, counseling, and alternative care that include biofeedback, meditation, acupressure, or acupuncture.

People experiencing a stress migraine can opt for available home remedies to ease the pain. Simply lie down in a quiet, dark room to relax. Massage your scalp or temples to ease the pain of headaches. One can use cold compress over the forehead or behind your neck. These simple remedies will help you to lessen the pain of migraines.
